Each time I want to Airplay Netflix I have to reboot the iPad. Then the icon for Airplay is back and everything works great for a while, or until I let the iPad sleep for a while. What I have to do is power down and restart the iPad. Terminating the app and restarting has no effect. At that point the Airplay icon disappears from the Netflix app. Now it turns out that it works for a while (about 2 hours) and then will report an error. As an experiment I tried using the iPad for all Netflix viewing and using Airplay to send it to the Apple TV. Using the Netflix test movie with Apple TV and iPad side by side, the Apple TV started with moderate speed and kept degrading, while the iPad got faster until it maxed out. Shows may stall in the first minute of play, then continue at low quality for a time before reporting "Error - try again later". Like so many others here I've had miserable Netflix quality on Apple TV following the updates. But I am adding this report because this more complete set of troubleshooting seems to take any blame off of Comcast (except perhaps to show that its stream is not perfectly constant in speed!). There may be something terribly wrong with the buffering in the Netflix ATV app, and even the slightest jitter may be setting it off. So I suspect the simplest explanation of this problem may be the best explanation. ![]() Using the "Short Example 23.976" stream, I found I was getting 5800 kbs streaming from Netflix on the ATV. The Oookla Speedtest app reported 30 Mbps up and down and the picture on the ATV was excellent. I found a network speed of 8 Mbps down and 30 Mbps up. However, when I took the ATV back to work it suddenly ran at only 325 kbps!!ģ) When the ATV at work showed 325 kbps, I checked the network connection speed using the Ookla Speedtest App on my iPhone. In my previous post I wondered if the problem was somehow due to my ISP being Comcast, as many people having this problem used Comcast. So whatever connection problems I may have, the Netflix iPhone App is nonetheless happy.Ģ) An ATV at work was streaming at 5800 kbps. I think this may be the highest speed that the iPhone App does (as the iPhone cannot even do true 720p let alone 1080p). However, using airplay from an iPhone I can stream Netflix to the ATV at 3 Mbps. ![]() I have foundġ) While I have a 50 Mbps connection I typically get 325 kbps streaming from Netflix on ATV. I described some of it in a previous post. I have been doing some troubleshooting on the problem. ![]()
